On Feb. 28th, cinema’s outstanding actors and actresses will vie to win the most prestigious awards in the motion picture industry, and with nearly 1,300 Nationwide insured pets named “Oscar,” it’s no secret that many of our members will be tuning in to the live broadcast. In honor of 88th Academy Awards, Nationwide, the nation’s first and largest provider of pet health insurance, analyzed its database of more than 550,000 insured pets to find the most popular Oscar nominee related pet names. And the nominees are (total number of pets sharing name in parenthesis):
Actor | Actress | Movie |
1. “Leo”nardo Dicaprio (1,294) | 1. “Charlotte” Rampling (357) | 1. Mad “Max” (4,747) |
2. “Eddie” Redmayne (285) | 2. “Rooney” Mara (134) | 2. “Brooklyn” (345) |

The most unique Oscar inspired name goes to a cat from Oxnard, Calif., named “Leonardo DiCATprio.” We hope the real Leonardo is proud (and maybe a little jealous) of his furry friend’s honorable recognition.
